What Our Students Say

All three of my dogs have taken classes and I have never had a bad experience! We've done puppy class, manners, and sports foundations. My puppy just finished his first course earlier this month and his classmates were the future service dogs bred by Dog Alliance, but we never once felt like we were the odd pair.

Positive Reinforcement Dog Obedience Training

At The Dog Alliance, we believe effective obedience training starts with trust, encouragement, and clear communication.

Our trainers use positive reinforcement methods, rewarding desired behaviors with treats, toys, praise, and play. This helps dogs understand what we're asking them to do while making learning more enjoyable.

We don't use prong, shock, or choke collars in our group training classes.

You'll also learn how to use these same reward-based techniques at home, helping your dog build good habits beyond the classroom.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dog Obedience Training

Find answers to common questions about our obedience classes, training methods, and how to get started.

Dogs can start learning basic obedience skills at any age. Our Beginner Obedience & Manners classes are designed for dogs 5 months and older, while younger puppies can begin with our Puppy Training programs.

Absolutely! Dogs can learn new skills throughout their lives. Our positive reinforcement obedience classes help adult dogs practice basic commands, improve everyday manners, and build better communication with their owners.

Our Beginner Dog Obedience & Manners classes cover essential skills such as sit, down, stay, coming when called, loose-leash walking, polite greetings, and focusing around distractions.

Beginner Obedience focuses on essential commands and everyday manners. Manners 2 builds on those skills with greater distance, longer durations, and more distractions to improve reliability in real-world situations.

Our 6-week Beginner Obedience & Manners course costs $240, while the 4-week Express option costs $170. Prices for advanced obedience and AKC Canine Good Citizen classes vary. Eligible purchases may qualify for flexible payment options through Klarna or Afterpay at checkout.

Our standard Beginner Obedience course runs for six weeks, with one class per week. Every dog learns at a different pace, so regular practice at home is important for building lasting obedience skills.

No previous training is required for our Beginner Dog Obedience & Manners class. Advanced programs, including Advanced Manners and AKC Canine Good Citizen, require completion of Beginner Obedience or equivalent foundational skills.

If your dog is fearful, reactive around other dogs or people, or needs extra behavioral support, we recommend starting with a private training lesson with our behaviorist to help determine the best training path.

Yes! Our Beginner Dog Obedience & Manners class covers common challenges like leash pulling, jumping, recall, and polite greetings through positive reinforcement training.
For more focused training, we also offer shorter workshops like Fun & Easy Leash Walking to help you work on specific skills without committing to a full obedience course.

Our training team includes CCPDT-certified trainers and AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluators. We use positive reinforcement methods to teach practical skills and help owners continue training at home.

Dogs old enough for rabies vaccination must have current rabies and distemper/parvo (DHPP) vaccinations. Puppies too young for rabies need the required distemper/parvo vaccination at least 7 days before class. Bordetella and canine influenza vaccinations are recommended but not required.

Dogs must also be healthy and have lived in their current home for at least two weeks before attending class.

No worries! If you miss a class, you can schedule a make-up class within 45 days for a $12 fee. We also provide online class recaps to help you stay on track and continue practicing with your dog at home.

Bring a leash, flat collar or front-clip harness, plenty of small treats, a favorite toy, and a mat or blanket. We use positive reinforcement methods and do not allow prong, shock, or choke collars in our classes.
